Miscellaneous: Missed
part of 1987-88 season with mononucleosis. The illness was diagnosed on Nov.
2, 1987, and Bruce was out of action until Dec. 9, 1987, when he was
assigned to a conditioning stint with Canucks' AHL affiliate in Fredericton.
... Missed part of 1987-88 season with bruised foot, suffered in
March 1988. ... Suffered 40-stitch cut in his ear during Vancouver's Jan. 7,
1989, game at Pittsburgh. ... Missed remainder of 1988-89 season and entire
1989 playoffs with torn ligaments in left hand, initially suffered
during Vancouver's March 16, 1989, game vs. Edmonton, and re-aggravated
in March 26, 1989, game at Winnipeg. The injury required
season-ending surgery. ... Left
unprotected by St. Louis for 1991 NHL Expansion Draft and claimed by San
Jose on May 30, 1991. ... Shifted from his natural position of right wing to
left wing after joining San Jose in 1991. He remained a left wing for rest of his pro hockey career. ... Became first 20-goal scorer in San Jose
Sharks history when he achieved feat during March 4, 1992, game vs. Los
Angeles. ... Missed remainder of 1991-92 season with hernia, diagnosed following San Jose's March 19, 1992, game at Calgary. The hernia
required season-ending surgery. ... Missed most of 1992-93 season with
strained groin, an injury initially suffered in San Jose's Nov. 7, 1992,
game vs. New Jersey. He did not return to action until San Jose's Dec. 18,
1992, game at Vancouver. He re-aggravated the injury during San Jose's
Dec. 23, 1992, game at Edmonton and did not return to action until San
Jose's March 11, 1993, game at St. Louis. He re-aggravated the injury in
that game and missed remainder of season. The injury
required surgery during the summer of 1993. |
