HOW HE GOT AWAY
EXPANSION DRAFT: Washington left Bergland unprotected for the 1992 NHL Expansion Draft. He was claimed by Tampa Bay on June 18, 1992. Two years later, Washington got Bergland back when the Capitals claimed him on waivers from Tampa Bay on March 17, 1994.
