1988-89: Played 35 regular-season games with Calgary team that went
on to win Stanley Cup, but was traded away before postseason. 1991-92:
Played on first San Jose Sharks team. Broadcasting Career: Worked
part-time as Calgary radio and television color commentator after his
retirement.
Miscellaneous: Joined Calgary on March 13, 1985, for balance of the 1984-85 season after
completing his sophomore season at University of North Dakota. ... Scored
goal in his first NHL game. The goal beat Toronto goalie Tim Bernhardt at
16:34 of the third period to close out the scoring in Calgary's 7-4 win over
the Maple Leafs. ... Played all three forward positions for Calgary during
1985-86 season. ... Played left wing on line with Carey Wilson and Hakan
Loob for Calgary in 1985-86. ... Missed part of 1985-86 season with sinus
condition, suffered in January 1986. He missed games from Jan. 16, 1986,
through Jan. 27, 1986. The illness led him to go to the Mayo Clinic for
diagnosis. ... Missed part of 1985-86 season with the flu, suffered in
February 1986. ... Missed remainder of 1985-86 season and start of 1986
playoffs with
broken left ankle (non-displaced fibular fracture), suffered in Calgary's March 19, 1986, game vs.
Minnesota. He did not return to action until Game 5 of Calgary's
second-round series at Edmonton on April 26, 1986. ... Credited with game-winning
goal for Calgary in Game 7 victory over Edmonton on April 30, 1986. Berezan's goal, scored at 5:14 of the third period, gave the Flames a 3-2
victory over the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Oilers. However,
the actual goal was shot into the Edmonton net by Oilers defenseman Steve
Smith. As the last Flames player to have touched the puck (he had dumped it
into the Edmonton zone on a line change), Berezan received
credit for the goal, even though he never saw the puck go into the net
because he was going over the boards on a line change. ... Missed most of 1986-87 season with pulled groin, an
injury originally suffered during Calgary's Nov. 9, 1986, game vs. Montreal
and re-aggravated during Calgary's Dec. 18, 1986, game vs. Quebec. The
injury required surgery, and he did not return to action until Calgary's
March 19, 1987, game vs. Edmonton. ... Missed most of 1987-88 season with
pulled groin, an injury suffered during Calgary's Nov. 19, 1987, game vs.
Quebec. He did not return to action until Calgary's Feb. 17, 1987, game vs.
N.Y. Rangers. ... Missed part of 1987-88 season with lacerated hand, an
injury suffered during Calgary's March 15, 1988, game at Hartford. He did
not return to action until Calgary's April 1, 1988, game vs. Los Angeles.
... Missed remainder of 1988 playoffs with concussion, an injury suffered
when he was checked by Mark Messier during Game 3 of Calgary's second-round
