Made first NHL start in Toronto's Jan. 12, 1984, game at Minnesota. He made 36 saves in a 5-4 OT loss. ... Runner-up to Rick Vaive in race for Toronto's 1983-84 Molson Cup (Three-Stars Leader). ... Missed part of 1987-88 season with sprained ligaments in left knee, an injury suffered during Toronto's practice on Feb. 10, 1988. He did not return to action until Toronto's March 12, 1988, game vs. Chicago. ... Missed part of 1988-89 season with phlebitis in right leg, an illness suffered in January 1989. ... Missed part of 1989-90 season with bone spurs in right heel, an injury suffered in November 1989. ... Missed part of 1990-91 season with calcium deposits in his heels, an injury diagnosed in mid-October 1990. The injury required surgery. ... Signed with Anaheim as an unrestricted free agent on Sept. 9, 1993, but never played for parent team. ... Signed special unrestricted free-agent contract with Dallas on Jan. 21, 1996, that enabled him to keep his three-year contract with Orlando (IHL). The special contract gave Bester a $2,500 bonus for each point the Stars earned while he was in goal. Bester was offered a spot on the Dallas roster because regular goalies Andy Moog and Darcy Wakaluk were both out with injuries. Although he had not played in the NHL since 1991, Bester went out and won his first start, making 35 saves in a 6-4 win at Vancouver.
