HOW HE GOT AWAY |
FREE AGENCY/TRADE: Cunneyworth played out his
contract with Buffalo and became a restricted free agent after the 1984-85
season. He attended Pittsburgh's training camp, and when Penguins decided
to sign him, they arranged a deal with Buffalo to avoid a compensation
dispute. Buffalo traded Cunneyworth and Mike
Moller to Pittsburgh in exchange for future considerations (Pat Hughes) on October 4, 1985. Thirteen
years later, Buffalo got Cunneyworth back when he signed as Group III
unrestricted free agent on August 27, 1998. |
