Springfield's Feb. 14, 1987, game vs. Rochester. Coulis' Full-Season Suspension:
Coulis missed the entire 1982-83 season due to suspension from pro hockey. The
suspension was handed down by the Central Hockey League after Coulis attacked referee Bob Hall during
Game 5 of Dallas' CHL playoff series vs. Salt Lake on April 24, 1982 at Salt
Lake City. Coulis was immediately suspended for the remainder of the 1982
playoffs because he had used the butt-end of his stick to drive Hall to the
ice after a Salt Lake power-play goal in the first period of Game 5. Coulis,
who had been the penalized Dallas player, was angry at Hall for calling a
high-sticking penalty. As Coulis came out of the penalty box, he skated past
Hall, and some words were allegedly exchanged. Hall then gave Coulis a
10-minute misconduct, but Coulis remained on the ice while Hall sorted out
other penalties with Dallas players. While Hall was talking to other Dallas
players, Coulis charged him and hit him with his stick. Coulis was thrown out
of the game. After studying tapes of the incident, CHL president Bud Poile
suspended Coulis for the remainder of the 1982 playoffs and the entire 1982-83
season. All other affiliated pro leagues honored Coulis' suspension, keeping
him out of hockey. Personal: Full name is Timothy W.
Coulis. |
HOW HE GOT AWAY |
TRADE: Washington traded Coulis, Robert
Picard and 1980 second-round pick (Bob McGill) to Toronto in exchange for Mike
Palmateer and 1980 third-round pick (Torrie Robertson) on June 11, 1980. |
