20 games with San Jose before joining Hartford because the Sharks took him in the waiver draft. Due to injury problems, he did not
reach his 20th game until Jan. 21, 1993. |

retirement and worked as a youth hockey coach. Falsely Accused: Corriveau
spent 18 days in a Swedish jail prior to the 2003-04 season after a
20-year-old Swedish woman accused Corriveau and Berlin Polar Bears teammate
Brad Bergen of raping her in Tyringe, Sweden on Aug. 23, 2003. Bergen and
Corriveau were both adamant that these accusations were false, but local
authorities jailed them as they pondered charges. The situation came as a
shock to all who knew Corriveau, including his wife, who flew from Canada to
Sweden to show support for her husband. In the end, Corriveau and Bergen
were entirely vindicated. No charges were ever filed and both were released
from jail on Sept. 10, 2003. There was evidence that the woman had visited
both men in their hotel room on Aug. 22, 2003-- while both players were in
Sweden for training camp--but investigators found no evidence of any forced
sexual encounter. The woman herself dropped the charges at around the time
the players were released. Personal: Full
name is Yvon Rene Corriveau. ... Older brother of former minor-leaguer Rick
Corriveau. |
HOW HE GOT AWAY |
TRADE/WAIVER DRAFT:
Washington traded Corriveau to Hartford for Mike Liut on March 6, 1990. Just
over two years later, Washington got Corriveau back when Hartford sent him
to the Capitals to complete the future considerations portion of an earlier
trade in which Hartford sent Mark Hunter and future considerations to
Washington in exchange for Nick Kypreos. The Kypreos trade took place on
June 15, 1992, and Corriveau was sent to Washington on August 20, 1992. Just
over one month later, Washington lost Corriveau a second time when the Caps
left him unprotected for the 1992 NHL Waiver Draft and he was claimed by San
Jose on October 4, 1992. |
