Delayed Punishment: In October 2000, while playing for
Davos in a Swiss league game against Zurich, Miller elbowed Zurich's Andrew
McKim in the head, causing McKim to suffer brain damage and a sprained back,
which led to his retirement. Although Miller was not sanctioned at the time
of the incident, McKim pressed charges that ultimately led Swiss judge Hans-Juerg
Zatti to give Miller a suspended three-month jail sentence plus an order to
pay McKim 10,000 Swiss francs. Miller was also ordered to repay McKim 100
percent of the money he had lost as a result of early retirement--as was to
be determined by a Swiss court. The punishment was not announced until
September 2005--nearly five years after the elbowing incident.
