AWARDS AND HONORS Stanley Cup Finals (Lost): 1988 (Boston)
1989-90: Played six regular-season games for Boston team that went to
Stanley Cup Finals, but missed postseason due to knee injury.
Miscellaneous: Scored first NHL goal on his second career shot, during
Boston's Oct. 12, 1985, game at Detroit. ... Missed part of 1985-86 season with
broken bone near his eye, suffered
when he was high-sticked by Wayne Gretzky during Boston's Jan. 13, 1986, game
vs. Edmonton. No penalty was called on the play, but Thelven's injury was
serious enough to require surgery. ... Missed parts of 1985-86 season with groin injury, suffered during
Boston's Feb. 6, 1986, game vs. Buffalo, and with separated shoulder, an
injury suffered during Boston's Feb. 18, 1986, game at Calgary. ... Missed most of 1986-87 season with dislocated
left shoulder, an injury suffered during Boston's training camp in September
1986. Thelven began the season, but lasted only five games before the pain
became too much to handle. The injury required surgery in October 1986, and
Thelven did not return to action until Boston's Jan. 20, 1987, game at Quebec.
... Missed remainder of 1986-87 season and entire 1987 playoffs with sprained
ankle, an injury suffered during Boston's March 29, 1987, game at Chicago. ...
Missed parts of 1987-88 season with sprained neck, an injury suffered in
January 1988, and with strained groin, an injury suffered in March 1988. ...
Missed part of 1988 playoffs with strained right shoulder, an injury suffered
during Boston's Adams Division finals series vs. Montreal in April 1988. ... Missed parts of 1988-89 season with

injury suffered in November 1988, and with fractured thumb, an injury suffered
in December 1988. ... Missed nearly half of 1988-89 season with tendinitis in right knee,
an injury suffered during Boston's Dec. 26, 1988, game at Buffalo. ...
Suffered re-aggravation of right knee injury when he was checked by Mike
McPhee during Game 5 of Boston's Adams Division finals series on April 25,
1989. The game was Boston's last of the 1989 playoffs, and Thelven's injury
required postseason surgery on May 1, 1989. ... Missed start
of 1989-90 season with sore back, an injury suffered during Boston's 1989
training camp. ... Missed remainder of 1989-90 season with tendinitis in right
knee, an injury suffered during Boston's Dec. 2, 1989, game vs. St. Louis. The
injury required season-ending surgery to remove an inch of damaged cartilage
from under the kneecap on Dec. 20, 1989. Although he tried to come back from the
injury in 1990-91, Thelven's tendinitis flared up again at Boston's training
camp in September 1990, requiring arthroscopic surgery on Oct. 11, 1990. He
continued to experience pain in the knee and was forced to retire at age 30 in
