Named Philadelphia interim assistant coach on Feb. 20, 2000, and remained in that position until May 26, 2000. ... Named Philadelphia assistant coach on June 8, 2000, and remained in position until April 28, 2002.
Miscellaneous: Missed part of 1984-85 season with ankle injury, suffered during his first NHL game vs. Washington on Dec. 23, 1984. ... Called up to Philadelphia as assistant coach during 1998-99 season when head coach Wayne Cashman was recovering from back surgery. ... Called up to Philadelphia as assistant coach during 1999-00 season after head coach Roger Neilson was diagnosed with cancer.

HOW HE GOT AWAY
TRADE: Philadelphia traded Stothers to Toronto in exchange for future considerations (1989 fifth-round pick -- later traded) on December 4, 1987. Six months later, Philadelphia got Stothers back from Toronto in exchange for Bill Root on June 21, 1988.
