Miscellaneous:
Missed part of 1984-85 season with pulled muscle in lower back, an injury suffered during N.Y. Rangers' Oct. 25, 1984, game at New Jersey. He did not return to action until N.Y. Rangers' Nov. 7, 1984, game vs. Washington. ... Missed remainder of 1984-85 season, entire 1985 training camp and start of 1985-86 season with torn ligaments in left knee, an injury suffered when he crashed into the goalpost during first period of N.Y. Rangers' Nov. 11, 1984, game vs. Los Angeles. The injury required arthroscopic surgery on Nov. 12, 1984, and he was able to skate again by Dec. 10, 1984. After Saarinen returned to practice, his knee kept swelling and required season-ending surgery on Jan. 10, 1985. He returned in 1985-86 to play 13 games with New Haven (AHL), but never played in NHL again.
