Chicago's 1990 training camp. Johannson and USA Hockey: After his
playing and coaching days ended, Johannson moved to Colorado
Springs, Colo., to begin a second career at USA Hockey as an administrator
and manager of U.S. international teams. Beginning work at USA Hockey on
Sept. 1, 2000, in a newly created position of International Activities and USOC Relations manager, Johannson
served as U.S. team leader at several
international tournaments and was the primary bridge between USA Hockey officials
and the tournament coaching staffs. Working with Art Berglund and Doug Palazzari in Colorado Springs, Johannson
played a key role in choosing players for the silver medalist 2002 U.S.
Olympic men's hockey team and the Team USA squad that won a gold medal at the 2004 World Junior
Championships. On Aug. 6, 2003, Johannson was named USA Hockey's Senior
Director of Hockey Operations. In this new position, he remained one of Team
USA's primary architects.
