Rouse Leaves Nanaimo: Rouse made headlines as an 18-year-old because of a dispute with Nanaimo part owner and interim general manager Real Turcotte. The incident began when Rouse, the Nanaimo captain, refused to dress for a Dec. 2, 1982, game vs. Kelowna because the team fired head coach Les Calder and replaced him with Turcotte one day earlier. Rouse and teammate Mark Lamb, who also refused to play in the Kelowna game, demanded that they be traded out of loyalty to Calder. Turcotte immediately met Rouse's demand by trading Rouse to Lethbridge for Vern Smith on Dec. 3, 1982.
Personal: Full name is Robert John Rouse.
HOW HE GOT AWAY
TRADE: Minnesota traded Rouse and Dino Ciccarelli to Washington in exchange for Mike Gartner and Larry Murphy on March 7, 1989.
