Although the Ellett's had a summer home in Kingston, Ontario, Annie Ellett, a native of Texas, needed to conduct her training in the United States due to Canada's stricter laws against the use of handguns. Within a year of the move, Dave Ellett also began competing as a mounted shooter.
Personal: Full name is David John George Ellett. ... Son of former minor-league player and major-junior hockey coach Bob Ellett, who was with Cleveland (AHL) when Dave was born. Bob Ellett had been a minor-league teammate of John Ferguson, the future Winnipeg general manager who drafted Dave Ellett roughly 20 years later. ... Husband of women's world champion cowboy mounted shooter Annie Bianco Ellett, who competes under the nickname "Outlaw Annie."
HOW HE GOT AWAY
TRADE: Winnipeg traded Ellett and Paul Fenton to Toronto in exchange for Ed Olczyk and Mark Osborne on November 10, 1990.
