18-year-old because of a dispute
with Nanaimo part owner and interim general manager Real Turcotte. The
much-publicized incident began when Lamb refused to dress for Nanaimo's Dec. 2, 1982, game vs. Kelowna because the team had fired head coach Les Calder and
replaced him with Turcotte one day earlier. Lamb and Islanders captain Bob
Rouse, who also refused to play in the Kelowna game, demanded that they be traded
out of their loyalty to Calder. Rouse was traded immediately, but a deal for
Lamb was more difficult. As the team tried to trade him, Lamb rejoined
Nanaimo for its Dec. 4, 1982, game at Victoria. The situation was finally
resolved in late December when Nanaimo traded Lamb to Medicine Hat in
exchange for Glen Kulka and Daryl Reaugh. Personal:
Full name is Mark W. Lamb. ... OIder brother of former minor-leaguer Garth
Lamb. |
HOW HE GOT AWAY |
