HOW HE GOT AWAY |
FREE AGENCY:
Curran played out his contract with Boston in 1985-86 and became a
restricted free agent. He signed with N.Y. Islanders on August 29, 1986. As
compensation for signing Curran, N.Y. Islanders sent Paul Boutilier to
Boston on Sept. 7, 1986. The compensation was decided by an arbitrator
because the Islanders and Bruins could not reach agreement on their own. The
Islanders wanted to send Boutilier to Boston, but the Bruins were asking for
Steve Konroyd. After a Sept. 5 hearing in Toronto, Judge Edward Houston of Ottawa, the NHL's arbitrator, sided
with the Islanders and awarded Boutilier to Boston. |
