HOW HE GOT AWAY |
WHA/TRADE: Unlike other draft picks, who
snubbed the NHL in favor of the WHA, Howe was already playing in the WHA at
the time Montreal selected him. While he was still in the WHA, Montreal traded
his NHL rights to Detroit for cash and future considerations on Feb. 25, 1977.
Detroit did not take him back in the 1979 NHL Reclaim Draft, enabling his
current WHA team (Hartford) to retain his NHL rights. |
