Was personal favorite of Minnesota U.S. college scout John Mariucci, who pushed for team to draft him and who also played with his father on the Chicago Black Hawks in early 1940s. ... Was youngest regular NHL goaltender in both 1974-75 and 1975-76. ... Served as Minnesota player representative from February 1977 to June 1979. ... Missed part of 1978-79 season after suffering injury in Minnesota's 1978 training camp. ... Retired for first time in September 1979 after failing to make Edmonton roster out of 1979 training camp. Stayed out of hockey in 1979-80 season, instead working in a Minnesota sporting goods store. Decided he missed the game and returned to Edmonton for 1980 training camp.
