of organization's defense prospects on Sept. 28, 1995, and remained in that
position through 2003-04 season. Management Career: Named Detroit
director of pro scouting prior to 2006-07 season and remained in position
through 2006-07 season.
Miscellaneous: Was available in 1974 NHL Amateur Draft because of
league's decision to allow drafting of underage players that year. ... Assisted on Gordie Howe's final NHL goal in Hartford's
playoff game at Montreal on April 9, 1980. ... Became first defenseman in NHL
history to score two short-handed goals in one period when he achieved feat in
Hartford's game at St. Louis on Oct. 9, 1980. ... Suffered major injury in
Hartford's Dec. 27, 1980 game vs. N.Y. Islanders when he slid into the pointed
metal center of the net and cut a five inch gash in his upper thigh. He was
essentially impaled by the metal, and the injury, which nearly ended his career,

HOW HE GOT AWAY |
WHA/EXPANSION: Unlike other draft picks, who
snubbed the NHL in favor of the WHA, Howe was already playing in the WHA at
the time Boston selected him. He did not enter the NHL until the 1979 NHL-WHA
merger. Boston briefly regained his rights in the NHL Reclaim Draft on June 9,
1979, but Hartford
immediately took him back as part of its privilege to protect three players from its WHA franchise. |
