AWARDS AND HONORS Miscellaneous: Scored game-winning goal in his first NHL game. The goal,
at 14:21 of second period, beat New Jersey goalie Glenn Resch to give
N.Y. Rangers a 3-1 lead in eventual 6-2 win. ... Scored natural hat

he failed to show up for training camp on Sept. 15, 1986, and instead opted to

not wish to play for new general manager Phil Esposito and head coach Ted Sator, whose style did not favor European players.
After the 1986-87 season, Sundstrom became a restricted free agent and returned to the NHL with
Washington. ... Missed part of 1987-88 season with bruised right shoulder, an
injury suffered when he was checked by Brian MacLellan in Washington's Nov.
14, 1987, game vs. Minnesota. ... Missed parts of 1988-89 season with twisted
back, an injury suffered in January 1989, and with hyper-extended right knee,
an injury suffered in February 1989. |
