The Curran signing took place on August 29, 1986, but the Islanders and Bruins could not agree on compensation. The Islanders wanted to send Boutilier to Boston, but the Bruins asked for Steve Konroyd. Judge Edward Houston of Ottawa, an arbitrator for the NHL, sided with the Islanders and awarded Boutilier to Boston.
