AWARDS AND HONORS Buffalo Horton Award (Unsung Hero): 1977-78 Buffalo Most Improved
Player: 1976-77 Miscellaneous: Played on line with Terry Martin
and Fred Stanfield for Buffalo in 1976-77 and 1977-78. ... Played on line with
Greg Malone and Paul Marshall for Pittsburgh in 1979-80. ... Was first player
in New Jersey history to be reacquired after team lost him in a previous
transaction. New Jersey signed McAdam as a free agent on Aug. 4, 1983, but
lost him on waivers to Washington on Nov. 17, 1983. Washington sold McAdam's
rights to New Jersey on Jan. 18, 1984. |

Records: Most shorthanded goals in one season (11 for Rochester in
1982-83) 1982-83: Played on AHL
regular-season champion (Rochester). 1983-84: Played 10
regular-season games for Maine team that went on to win AHL playoff title, but
was not with team in postseason. Education: Attended Southern Maine
Technical College after his retirement and studied physical therapy. Miscellaneous:
Lived in St. Catharines, Ontario, during off-seasons of his playing days. ...
Moved to Portland, Maine, after his retirement, and went to work for United
Parcel Service. Sued Maine workman's compensation board in 2000, claiming it
had to pay for his efforts to find a proper program for rehabilitation from an
injury. The case went to the Maine Supreme Judicial Court, where the judges
sided with McAdam and insisted that future injury evaluations be paid for and
conducted by the board itself. ... Became a physical therapy assistant after
receiving his associate's degree. ... Played Oldtimers' charity hockey in
Portland after retirement. Personal: Nicknamed "Wheels" for his
exceptional skating speed. ... Full name is Gary F.

HOW HE GOT AWAY |
TRADE/FREE AGENCY: Buffalo traded McAdam to
Pittsburgh for Dave Schultz on Feb. 6, 1979. Buffalo got McAdam back when it
signed him as an unrestricted free agent on Sept. 17, 1982. Buffalo lost
McAdam again when it did not offer him a contract after the 1982-83 season and
he signed with New Jersey as a free agent on August 4, 1983. |
