Career: Named Minnesota assistant coach on Aug. 2, 1988, relocated with
team to Dallas on June 9, 1993, and remained in position until May 16, 2002.
Miscellaneous: Had two assists in first NHL game. ... Was Montreal's
nominee for 1981-82 Masterton Trophy. ... Left unprotected
by Hartford in 1987 NHL Waiver Draft, but was not selected by another team.
... Never missed playoffs during his NHL career.
Jarvis' Iron Man Streak: Jarvis set the NHL Iron Man standard by
playing in 964 consecutive regular-season games from Oct. 8, 1975, to Oct. 10,
1987. He played in every game for 12 straight seasons, plus two games to start
the 1987-88 season. The streak ended on Oct. 11, 1987, when Hartford coach
Jack Evans chose to scratch Jarvis for a game in Boston. The previous record
of 914 consecutive games had been held by Garry Unger. Jarvis broke Unger's
record on Dec. 26, 1986, vs. Montreal in Hartford. Although Jarvis had no plans of retiring
once the streak ended, he became a permanent scratch from Hartford's lineup.
He was sent to Hartford's AHL affiliate as a player-assistant coach on Dec.
12, 1987, and never played in the NHL again. |
