Washington Playoffs Penalty-Minutes Leader: 1986 (35)
Miscellaneous: Fought N.Y. Islanders' Bob Nystrom in his first NHL
game. ... Missed part of 1980-81 season with separated left shoulder, an
injury suffered during Detroit's Dec. 16, 1980, game vs. Edmonton. ... Missed
parts of 1984-85 season with broken right hand, an injury suffered during
Detroit's Oct. 17, 1984, game vs. N.Y. Islanders, and with injured left hip.
... Missed part of 1985-86 season with groin injury suffered during Detroit's
Jan. 13, 1986, game at Toronto. ... Missed remainder of 1986-87 season, entire
1987 playoffs, and most of 1987-88
season with shattered left kneecap, an injury suffered when he was hit by puck
while blocking a shot during final seconds of Washington's Jan. 20, 1987, game
vs. Vancouver. Although he came back to play one NHL game with Minnesota on
March 1, 1988, Barrett re-fractured the kneecap during a stress test, ending his

for Adirondack team that went on to win AHL playoff title, but was not with
team in postseason. Coaching Career: Named Smiths Falls (CJHL) head
coach in January 2003. Management Career: Served as director of
hockey development for Gloucester Rangers minor hockey program after his
retirement. Miscellaneous: Was active in
charitable causes during his playing days in Detroit, working to help feed the
area homeless. ... Returned to Gloucester, Ontario, and worked as a
firefighter after his retirement. Personal: Full name is John David
