1979-80: Played on first Hartford Whalers NHL team.
Miscellaneous: His first NHL game was also first game in history of
Hartford/Carolina franchise. ... Played on line with Dave Keon for Hartford in
1979-80. ... Missed end of 1979-80 season and entire 1980 playoffs with
dislocated collarbone. ... Missed end of 1980-81 season with hairline fracture
in left foot, an injury suffered during Hartford's Feb. 18, 1981, game vs.
Winnipeg. ... Missed most of 1981-82 season with separated left shoulder, suffered
in Hartford's Nov. 11, 1981 game vs. Edmonton. The injury
required postseason surgery. ... Scored on first shot in first game with
Winnipeg (vs. Los Angeles on Jan. 13, 1984). |

contract with New England (WHA) on May 25, 1978. ... Played on line with
Gordie Howe for New England (WHA) in 1978-79. ... Played on Hartford's
off-season charity softball team. ... Returned to Winnipeg after his
retirement and went into financial services business, working for the Courts
Financial Group. ... Coached minor hockey in Winnipeg after his retirement.

| HOW HE GOT AWAY |
| WHA/EXPANSION: Douglas did not sign with
Toronto after the draft, because he had already committed to playing in the WHA with New England. He did not enter the NHL until the
1979 NHL-WHA merger. Toronto briefly regained his rights in the NHL Reclaim Draft on June 9,
1979, but Hartford
immediately took him back as part of its privilege to protect three players from its WHA franchise. |
