season with leg injury, suffered in December 1981, and eye injury, suffered
during a Hartford practice in January 1982. The eye was hit by a stick, and
surgery was required to re-attach the retina, ending his season. |

HOW HE GOT AWAY |
WHA/WAIVERS: After finishing college, Lyle entered the WHA by signing with New England in July 1976. His NHL rights
were reclaimed by Detroit on June 9, 1979, after the merger of the NHL and WHA.
Detroit left him unprotected for the 1981 NHL Waiver Draft, and he was claimed
by Hartford (his former WHA team) on November 13, 1981. |
