AWARDS AND HONORS 1982-83: Played on first New Jersey Devils
team. Miscellaneous: Received delay of game penalty for kissing a puck during
Colorado's Nov. 28, 1979, game vs. N.Y. Islanders. To celebrate a late goal,
he picked up the puck, kissed it, and threw it into the stands. ... Missed
part of 1980-81 season with fractured nose and cheekbone as well as contusion
in his right eye. He suffered the injury when a puck hit his face during
Colorado's Dec. 2, 1980, game at N.Y. Islanders. The injuries required plastic
surgery to repair his cheekbone and nose on Dec. 11, 1980. ... Missed start of
1981-82 season with back injury suffered during one of Colorado's 1981
preseason games. ... Missed part of 1981-82 season with concussion and facial
lacerations on forehead and left eyelid, an injury suffered when he was hit by
a stick during Colorado's Dec. 18, 1981, game vs, Vancouver. The injury
required 19 stitches. ... Missed end of 1981-82 season with chronic pain in
shoulder that began in January 1982. ... Was on Colorado team that relocated to New Jersey on
June 30, 1982. |

remained in that position through 1990-91 season.. ... Named Kanata (COJHL)
assistant coach prior to team's inaugural 2002-03 season and remained in that
position into 2002-03 season. Miscellaneous: Was on Phoenix (CHL)
team that folded on Dec. 13, 1977. ... Was on Hampton (AHL) team that folded
on Feb. 2, 1978. ... Missed part of 1981-82 season with separated shoulder
suffered while playing for Fort Worth (CHL) in October 1981. ... Played on
Hartford's off-season charity softball team. ... Missed end of 1985-86 season
after injuring shoulder in fight with Dale Baldwin during Salt Lake's Jan. 3,
1986, game at Fort Wayne (IHL). The injury, which required season-ending
surgery, also ended his career. ... Returned to Ottawa area after his
retirement and played for Ottawa Senators Alumni charity hockey team even

HOW HE GOT AWAY |
RELEASED: New Jersey released Pierce in
December 1982, and he signed with Hartford to play for the
team's AHL affiliate in Binghamton. A year later, he signed an NHL contract
with Hartford on Oct. 6, 1983. |
