Miscellaneous: Played center throughout junior hockey and for part of his
WHA career. ... Ended his junior career and signed with Houston (WHA) on the
day he turned 18 in 1975. The signing prompted a lawsuit from the Ontario
Hockey Association, but a judge ruled in Tonelli's favor because he was a
legal adult and could not be bound by any previous contracts. ... Skipped 1975 OMJHL playoffs and Memorial Cup tournament
because he had already signed a pro contract. ... Houston was forced to give
up its 1976 first-round WHA draft pick to compensate for Tonelli's underage
signing. ... Played center on line with Gordie Howe and Mark Howe and later
