Career Beyond Hockey: Made permanent home in the Los Angeles area after his retirement and went into the insurance business. He also earned a contractor's license in the late 1980s, ran a wood-finishing business and founded a company called Gary Edwards Painting in 1998.

Miscellaneous:

Selected by Ottawa Nationals in 1972 WHA Draft -- the first-ever WHA Draft -- in February 1972. Had Hall of Famer Glenn Hall as a personal goaltending tutor in St. Louis from 1968 to 1970. Gave up future Hall of Famer Guy Lafleur's first NHL goal on Oct. 23, 1971, at Los Angeles. Shut out both Boston and Philadelphia on road as Los Angeles rookie in 1971-72.
Suspended one game in 1973-74 season due to stick-swinging incident at Vancouver. Snapped Boston's 21-game home unbeaten streak with playofff win on April 13, 1976. On Cleveland team that folded, and merged with Minnesota after the 1977-78 season. Gave up Wayne Gretzky's 50th goal on April 2, 1980, making Gretzky youngest 50-goal scorer.
Won both starts for Minnesota when team played in Sweden's 1980 DN Cup tournament. Went 6-0-5 in 11-game unbeaten streak for Minnesota, Jan. 26, 1980, to April 2, 1980. An avid baseball fan who developed love for the Dodgers while playing in Los Angeles. Outstanding golfer who won numerous charity tournaments during his playing career.
