HOW HE GOT AWAY
INTRA-LEAGUE DRAFT/TRADE: Detroit left Rutherford unprotected for the 1971 NHL Intra-league Draft and he was claimed by Pittsburgh on June 8, 1971. Detroit got him back from Pittsburgh, along with Jack Lynch, in exchange for Ron Stackhouse on Jan. 17, 1974. Detroit traded him to Toronto for Mark Kirton on Dec. 4, 1980. He returned to Detroit to finish his career, signing as a free agent on Sept. 13, 1982.
