AWARDS AND HONORS Miscellaneous: Played under five-game tryout contract with Winnipeg near
end of 1986-87 season after completing his NCAA eligibility at Michigan. He
played in a total of four games from March 13-20, 1987, before suffering a
season-ending broken jaw during Winnipeg's March 20, 1987, game at
Vancouver. The injury occurred when another player fell on him while he was
on the bench. Prior to the injury, the Jets offered to extend
his tryout to eight games, but Jones wanted to return to Michigan
to earn his degree on time. ... Signed first NHL contract
with Winnipeg on Feb. 12, 1988, after being cut from U.S. Olympic team.
... Played left wing on line with Dale Hawerchuk for Winnipeg in 1987-88.
... Missed part of 1991-92 season with shoulder injury, suffered in Los
Angeles' Feb. 22, 1991, game at Winnipeg. He did not return until Los
Angeles' March 5, 1991, game at Washington. ... Signed with Philadelphia as unrestricted free agent on Aug. 6, 1991,
after Los Angeles did not make Jones a qualifying offer for the 1991-92
season. ... Missed part of 1991-92 season with torn ligament and broken
right ankle, an injury suffered when he was checked into the boards by Calle
Johansson during Philadelphia's Jan. 28, 1992, game vs. Washington. He did
not return to action until Philadelphia's April 12, 1992, game at Hartford.
... Signed with Ottawa as an unrestricted free agent on Sept. 28, 1992, but
never played for parent team. |
