Miscellaneous: Missed start of 1984-85 season while recovering from
off-season knee surgery performed in summer of 1984. ... Originally
recruited to play at the University North Dakota. He began the 1984-85
season there, but was unable to play because he was recovering from surgery.
He left North Dakota during his freshman year to play Tier II hockey in
British Columbia. ... Transferred to Harvard in 1987 at age 21, making him
eligible to play only four semesters of varsity hockey under NCAA rules. He
lost one year's worth of eligibility because of the transfer and then lost
another because he had been over the age of 20 when he began his NCAA
career. He was able to extend his eligibility to a fifth semester under an
Olympic waiver because he had spent part of the 1986-87 season with Team
Canada. As a result, his NCAA eligibility ended after the first semester of
Harvard's 1989-90 season. ... Opened 1987-88 season as a left wing at
Harvard, but was switched back to his natural position of defense midway
through the season. ... Led all Harvard defensemen with 15 points in
1988-89.
