Clifford's Historic Goal: Clifford made OHL history as a
19-year-old when he scored a goal in Kingston's Jan. 7, 1986, game vs.
Toronto. He became the first goaltender in the's OHL 53-year history and only the third in
the history of major North American leagues to score a goal. His one-handed
clearing attempt -- a swat at the puck to avoid having to give up a faceoff
-- traveled the length of the ice into an empty net to seal a 5-3 victory
over the Marlboros. With the goal, he also tied the OHL record for career
points by a goalie (11 points). Only one other OHL goaltender managed a goal
after Clifford, and that came in the 2004 playoffs, when Justin Peters
scored for Toronto St. Michael's. |
