HOW HE GOT AWAY |
FREE AGENCY/TRADE: Severyn never signed with
Winnipeg. After two more WHL seasons, he was eligible for the draft again,
but wasn't chosen -- making him an unrestricted free agent. He then entered
the University of Alberta, where he played for two years before signing with
Quebec on July 15, 1988. Nine years later, Winnipeg got Severyn back when
they traded future considerations (1994 sixth-round pick --Ryan Smart) to New Jersey in
exchange for Severyn on September 30, 1993. Severyn never played for
Winnipeg, because three days later the Jets traded him to Florida for Milan Tichy on October 3, 1993. |
