1986-87: Played one regular-season game for Philadelphia team that
went to 1987 Stanley Cup Finals, but was not with team for playoffs.
1991-92: Played 17 regular-season games for Pittsburgh team that went on
to win Stanley Cup. Although he did not appear in any postseason games, he
was awarded a Stanley Cup ring and qualified to have his name engraved on
the Cup.
Miscellaneous: Was only Philadelphia player to play in all 80 games of
1988-89 season. ... Led all NHL rookie defensemen with plus-11 rating in
1988-89. ... Missed part of 1989-90 season with the flu, an illness
contracted in November 1989. ... Missed part of 1990-91 season with
concussion, an injury suffered in fight with Troy Crowder during
Philadelphia's Oct. 11, 1990, game vs. New Jersey. Although he played the
following game, on Oct. 13, 1990, vs. Winnipeg, the concussion continued to
bother him, and he skipped Philadelphia's Oct. 16, 1990, game at Pittsburgh.
He returned to the lineup, but then suffered another concussion when he was checked into the boards by
Steve Leach in Philadelphia's Oct. 23, 1990, game vs. Washington. He did not
return to action until Philadelphia's Oct. 30, 1990, game vs. Pittsburgh. ... Missed
half of 1990-91 season with fractured navicular bone in left wrist, an
injury suffered
during Philadelphia's Nov. 23, 1990, game vs. Toronto. He did not return to
action until Philadelphia's March 2, 1991, game vs. St. Louis. ... Missed
start of 1991-92 season while recovering from July 1, 1991, bone graft
surgery from his hip to his wrist. He did not resume practicing until Nov.
6, 1991, and did not resume playing hockey until Los Angeles assigned him to
Phoenix (IHL) on Nov. 16, 1991. He was later recalled, and finally made his 1991-92 NHL regular-season debut
in Los
Angeles' Nov. 30, 1991, game vs. New Jersey. ... Suspended by
Pittsburgh on Oct. 30, 1992, for leaving the team without permission after
Oct. 27, 1992, game at Ottawa and missing a flight to St. Louis. Chychrun,
who had been scratched from four straight games, was mad at coach Scotty
Bowman because he had not been allowed to play in front of his family and
other hometown fans in Ottwa, even though he had been promised that he would
be playing in that game. He was later re-instated on Nov. 3, 1992, and
traded to Los Angeles in exchange for Peter Ahola three days later. ... Signed with
Hartford as an unrestricted free agent on June 28, 1994, but never played in
Whalers organization. ... Wore No. 3 at Hartford's 1994 training camp. ...
Suffered concussion during Hartford's training camp in September 1994 and
continued to suffer from post-concussion syndrome throughout the 1994-95 NHL
lockout. He finally opted to retire prior to the start of the shortened 1995
season because he had already had 12 concussions in his pro hockey career
and did not want to risk further head injury. |
