assistant coach on July 25, 2006, and remained in that position through
2006-07 season. Miscellaneous: Missed start of 1988-89 season with injured left eye and
broken left cheekbone, suffered when accidentally kicked in face during the
first period of Detroit's Sept. 23, 1988, preseason game at Buffalo. The
injury required surgery, and Houda was not cleared to play until Oct. 20,
1988, when he was assigned to Adirondack (AHL). He was recalled to Detroit
on Nov. 4, 1988, and did not make his 1988-89 NHL debut until Detroit's Nov.
6, 1988, game vs. Edmonton. ... Missed part of 1989-90 season with damaged
MCL in right knee, an injury suffered during Detroit's practice on Nov. 23,
1989. The injury required arthroscopic surgery, and Houda did not return to
action until Detroit's Dec. 5, 1989, game vs. St. Louis. ... Had assist in
his first game with Hartford on Feb. 23, 1991, vs. Buffalo. ... Had assist
in his first game with Los Angeles on Nov. 6, 1993, vs. Pittsburgh. ...

suffered during Los Angeles' Feb. 28, 1994, game vs. Montreal. He did not

TRADE/FREE AGENCY:
Detroit traded Houda to Hartford in exchange for Doug Crossman on February
20, 1991. Seven years later, Detroit got Houda back in a deal with
Anaheim for future considerations on Oct. 9, 1998. Detroit lost Houda a second time when he signed with Buffalo as a Group III unrestricted
free agent on July 13, 1999. |
