AWARDS AND HONORS 1996-97: Played on WPHL regular-season

December 1982 after Canucks obtained special permission from Victoria (WHL).
Vancouver agreed to return Kulak before he would miss any games with

upset Victoria general manager Fraser McColl, who said the Canucks had
violated their agreement. Kulak eventually returned to Victoria after
playing in four NHL games. ... Missed entire
1984-85 season with torn abdominal muscle, an injury suffered during the
1983-84 season. The injury went undiagnosed until Vancouver's training camp in
September 1984, when Kulak was in too much pain to play. The injury required
season-ending surgery, and he did not return to action until the middle of the
1985-86 season. ... Missed part of 1989-90 season with broken hand, an injury

playing the game in protest of biting incident. Kulak needed five stitches
to re-attach the ear, plus a tetanus shot, while Marinenko was suspended for
the balance of tour. ... Was on Tucson (WCHL) team that folded 21 games into
1998-99 season. Personal: Full name is Stuart Kulak. |
HOW HE GOT AWAY |
WAIVERS: Vancouver put Kulak on waivers in an
effort to clear him for play in the minor leagues, but the move backfired when
Kulak was taken off waivers by Edmonton on December 11, 1986. |
