left shoulder, an injury suffered when he was checked by Wilf Paiement in Game
3 of the Wales Conference championship series between Philadelphia and Quebec
on May 9, 1985, at Philadelphia. The injury required surgery and kept him out
of the 1985 Stanley Cup Finals. ... Missed start of 1986-87 due to contract
dispute with Philadelphia. An unsigned McCrimmon left training camp on Sept.
26, 1986, because he refused to risk injury in exhibition games. The Flyers
then suspended him, and he worked out with the University of Saskatchewan
hockey team during his holdout. His agent, Herb Pinder, finally reached an
agreement with Flyers general manager Bobby Clarke on Oct. 30, 1986. The deal
paid McCrimmon $210,000 for 1986-87 and gave him the right to become an
unrestricted free agent if the Flyers did not offer him a 15 percent raise to
retain his rights. If they did that, any team that signed McCrimmon would owe
the Flyers a first- and second-round draft pick. The Flyers retained McCrimmon
after the 1986-87 season but promptly traded him to Calgary before the opening
of 1987 training camp. ... Paired on defense with Gary Suter for Calgary in
1987-88. ... Missed parts of 1988-89 season with skin rash, suffered on Feb.
9, 1989, and with bruised foot, suffered during Calgary's March 13, 1989, game
at N.Y. Rangers. ... Named NHL's best defensive defenseman in a 1989-90 poll
of players by Inside Hockey magazine. ... Missed part of 1990-91 season
with broken right ankle, an injury suffered during Detroit's Jan. 12, 1991,
game at N.Y. Islanders. ... Suspended one game by NHL during 1991-92 season
for receiving his second stick-related game misconduct of season during
Detroit's March 7, 1992, game at Quebec. ... Missed part of 1992-93 season
with flu, which he contracted in October 1992. ... Missed entire 1993 playoffs
