start (a 3-3 tie with Detroit) was also first NHL home game in Edmonton Oilers
history. ... Missed parts of 1979-80 season fractured cheekbone, an injury
suffered in Edmonton's Dec. 24, 1979, practice, and with ankle injury. ...
Recorded first shutout in Edmonton Oilers NHL history when he blanked Hartford
on Dec. 9, 1979, in Edmonton. ... Missed parts of 1980-81 season with bruised
jaw, an injury suffered during a January 1981 practice, and broken index

HOW HE GOT AWAY |
WHA/TRADE: Mio never signed with Chicago,
instead jumping to the WHA after graduating from Colorado College. While he
was in the WHA, his NHL rights were traded by Chicago with future
considerations to Minnesota for Doug Hicks and 1980 third-round pick (Marcel
Frere) on March 14, 1978. The deal required Mio to sign with Minnesota in
order for Chicago to collect on its draft choice. Chicago sent Pierre Plante
to Minnesota to complete the deal on May 4, 1978. |
