AWARDS AND HONORS St. Louis Rookie of Year: 1987-88 St. Louis Records: Most goals in one playoff game (4 at Chicago on
April 10, 1988) Atlanta Records: Most power-play assists in one
game (3 at Florida on Jan. 19, 2002) 1991-92: Played on first San Jose Sharks team. Also played three
playoff games for Chicago team that lost in 1992 Stanley Cup Finals, but did
not appear in any Stanley Cup Finals games vs. Pittsburgh, having made his
only playoff appearances in the first round.
Miscellaneous: Signed St. Louis for 1987 playoffs after
winning 1987 NCAA championship with North Dakota. He gave up the last two
years of his NCAA eligibility to turn pro, signing his first NHL contract
just three days before the playoffs opened. He made his NHL debut in Game 2
of St. Louis' first-round series vs. Toronto on April 9, 1987. He was
activated as a replacement for Mark Hunter, who suffered a shoulder injury
in the series opener. ... Made his NHL regular-season debut for St. Louis on
Oct. 8, 1987, at Vancouver. ... Missed part of 1987-88 season with sprained
shoulder, an injury suffered when he was checked into the boards by Dave Andreychuk during
St. Louis' Jan. 12, 1988, game vs. Buffalo. He did not return to action
until St. Louis' Jan. 26, 1988, game vs. Vancouver. ... Missed part of 1987-88 season with
lacerated ankle, an injury suffered during St. Louis' March 25, 1988, game
at Buffalo. He did not return to action until St. Louis' March 10, 1988, game
vs. Pittsburgh. ... Finished fifth among all NHL rookies with 48 points and
third among all NHL rookies with 37 assists in 1987-88. ... Set St. Louis
record for goals in a playoff game by scoring four times in Game 4 of Blues'
first-round series at Chicago on April 10, 1988. He also scored the
game-winner shorthanded with 4:45 remaining in the third period to give St.
Louis a 6-5 victory. All four goals were scored against Chicago goaltender
Darren Pang. ... Missed part of 1989-90 season with bruised left
shoulder, an injury suffered during St. Louis' Nov. 28, 1989, game vs.
Boston. He did not return to action until St. Louis' Dec. 5, 1989, game at
Detroit. ... Missed start of 1991-92 season with cracked bone in left wrist, an
injury suffered during San Jose's training camp in late September 1991. He
did not make his 1991-92 NHL regular-season debut until San Jose's Dec. 3,
1991, game vs. Los Angeles. ... Signed two-year contract with Dallas as a
Group III unrestricted free agent on Aug. 12, 1997. ... Played first NHL game in more than three
years when he appeared in Dallas' Dec. 5, 1997, game vs. Calgary. Although
he had not been in an NHL game since April 14, 1994, Hrkac scored a
power-play goal on his first shot of the game. ... Placed on waivers by
Dallas and claimed by Edmonton on Jan. 6, 1998. ... Missed part of 1997-98
season with sprained left shoulder, an injury suffered during Edmonton's
Jan. 10, 1998, game at Los Angeles. He did not return to action until
Edmonton's Jan. 24, 1998, game at Phoenix. He had two assists in that game.
... Traded by Edmonton with Bobby Dollas to
Pittsburgh for Josef Beranek on June 16, 1998, but never played

HOW HE GOT AWAY |
TRADE/FREE AGENCY:
St. Louis traded Hrkac and Greg Millen to Quebec for Jeff Brown on December
13, 1989. Almost four years later, St. Louis got Hrkac back when he signed
with Blues as unrestricted free agent on July 30, 1993. St. Louis lost Hrkac
again when he opted to spend three years in the IHL, and his NHL rights
lapsed. He signed with Dallas as a Group III unrestricted free agent on
August 12, 1997. |
