1982 Entry Draft rather than through a special draft for Czechoslovakian
players as had been the case with two players released to the NHL one year
earlier. |

AWARDS AND HONORS 1982-83: Played on Edmonton team that lost in 1983 Stanley Cup
Finals, but did not appear in any final series games vs. N.Y. Islanders.
Miscellaneous: Scored goal and had assist in first NHL game. The goal,
assisted by Jari Kurri and John Blum, at 7:58 of first period, beat
Calgary goalie Don Edwards for a 1-0 lead in eventual 7-5 Oilers win.
It was also the first goal of Oilers' 1982-83 season. ... Played on line
with Wayne Gretzky and Jari Kurri for Edmonton in 1983-84. ... Became first
Czech-trained player to have name engraved on Stanley Cup when he
achieved feat with Edmonton in 1984. ... Left NHL in
June 1985 to continue his career in Europe. He had initially hoped to coach
in Switzerland but later signed a contract to play for Iserlohn (West
Germany). ...
Returned to Edmonton for balance of 1986-87 season in March 1987 after
completing season in West Germany. |
