AWARDS AND HONORS Miscellaneous: Missed Hartford's 1984 training camp and start of 1984-85
season with mononucleosis, diagnosed in September 1984. ... Signed with
Chicago organization as a free agent prior to 1987-88 season, but never
played for parent team. So Long, Hartford: Paterson was suspended by
Hartford on Sept. 29, 1986, because he refused to accept assignment to
Binghamton (AHL) after failing to make the NHL roster out of training camp.
Paterson went home to Ottawa and said he would retire and go to school
rather than report to the minor leagues. The situation was resolved -- and
Paterson came out of his brief "retirement" -- when Hartford traded his
rights to Calgary in exchange for Yves Courteau
on Oct. 7, 1986. |
