Missed parts of 1988-89 season with back injury, suffered in New Jersey's Dec. 3, 1988, game vs. Philadelphia, with bruised left palm, an injury suffered during New Jersey's Dec. 29, 1988, game vs. Boston, and with lacerated knuckle in left hand, an injury suffered during New Jersey's March 1, 1988, game at Pittsburgh. ... Maley claimed he misunderstood coach Pierre Creamer when told to show up for the meal. ... Did not play during 1994-95 season because he failed to catch on with an NHL team for the lockout-shortened season. ... Retired for first time after 1995-96 season to open Rollin' Ice roller-rink in San Jose, California. ... Came out of retirement to sign minor-league contract with New Jersey as a Group III unrestricted free agent on Oct. 1, 1999. ... Returned to San Jose area and resumed work as owner/president of Rollin' Ice after his final retirement in 2000. ... Became president of San Jose Sharks Alumni Association in 2002.
