Career: Named Calgary assistant coach on Jan. 2, 2003, and remained in
that position until July 12, 2006. ... Named Calgary head coach on July 12,
2006, and remained in that position through 2006-07 season.
Miscellaneous: Scored goal and had assist in his first NHL game. The goal
beat New Jersey goalie Glenn Resch at 14:26 of the third period in a 13-4
Edmonton win. The game was noteworthy because Wayne Gretzky called the
Devils a "Mickey Mouse organization" after the Oilers rout -- one of the few
quotes Gretzky regretted during his NHL career. Earlier in the game,
Playfair had earned his first NHL point by assisting on a Gretzky goal... Missed parts of 1988-89
season with bruised left shoulder, suffered during Chicago's Oct.
18, 1988, game at Detroit, and with strained back, an injury suffered in
November 1988. |

with Edmonton in 1986-87 and became an unrestricted free agent when the team
