10-Game Suspension: Petit
was suspended by the NHL for Los Angeles' final four 1995 preseason games
and the first six games of the 1995-96 season for abusing linesman Randy
Mitton while fighting during Los Angeles' Sept. 27, 1995, preseason game vs.
Calgary. Under NHL rules, the league was required to give Petit an automatic
10-game suspension. He was immediately suspended while the incident was
reviewed by NHL vice-president Brian Burke. The NHL upheld the ruling, and
Petit was not allowed to begin his 1995-96 season until Los Angeles' Oct.
