through 1993-94 season. ... Named Pittsburgh assistant coach on July 23,
1997 and held position until Dec. 9, 1999. ... Named Chicago assistant coach
on July 3, 2000, and remained in position until Oct. 25, 2000. ... Named
Ottawa assistant coach on June 22, 2001, and remained in position until
April 22, 2004.
Miscellaneous: Turned pro with Minnesota for balance of 1977-78 season
after using up his NCAA eligibility at Notre Dame. ... Played first NHL game
in his hometown of Bloomington, Minn. ... Paired on defense with Randy Gregg
for Edmonton in 1982-83. ... Missed part of 1983-84 season with groin injury.
He had been playing in pain for several weeks before revealing the injury to

with several leg fractures, including multiple fractures in the lower left leg
and right heel. He required three surgeries and had to resume coaching in a
wheelchair for the first three months of the 1994-95 season. ... Hospitalized
on April 13, 1995, after suffering stroke-like symptoms. He had transient
ischemia that caused headaches and dizziness.. ... Took job as Wichita (CHL)
head coach in 1995 to limit his amount of travel for health reasons and so
that his wife could return to her hometown. Attacking a Mascot: Jackson
made headlines when he climbed over the glass and went into the stands to
punch the Atlanta (IHL) mascot during Cincinnati's Feb. 4, 1995, game in
Atlanta. The mascot, known as Sir Slapshot, was actually a 26-year-old man
named Mike Centanni. Wearing a nine-foot inflatable mascot suit that made him
look like a vertical blimp, Centanni, who was working as a substitute for the
regular mascot, had been slamming his body into the glass behind Jackson
during the game. Jackson lost his balance and fell on top of his players as
the mascot made fun of him. He was so infuriated that he went after Centanni.
The IHL suspended Jackson for 10 games and fined him and the Cyclones each
$1,000 for the attack on Centanni. Footage of the attack was shown on ESPN
throughout the following days, and Centanni became a local Atlanta celebrity. Personal: Full name is Donald
