with Cincinnati (WHA), merely a "letter of intent" to consider playing
in the WHA only if drafted by Cincinnati.
Cincinnati protested Toronto's signing of Carlyle and threatened a lawsuit,
but Toronto ended the dispute by purchasing the rights to Mike Pelyk along
with Carlyle in June 1976. ... Named to Canada's 1981 Canada Cup team, but was
cut by coach Scotty Bowman because he was overweight at training camp. ... Was active in local charities during his playing days,
serving as chairman of Pittsburgh's United Way Pledgeathon in 1981. ...
Accused of failing a drug test at 1989 World Championships, but was vindicated
when a second urine sample did not show any traces of banned substances. ... Was an
avid harness racing fan during his playing day and drove trotters in charity
