Missed end of 1978-79 season and most of 1979 playoffs with fractured cheekbone, an injury suffered in late March 1979. ... Paired on defense with Ron Stackhouse for Pittsburgh in 1979-80. ... Missed first two weeks of Pittsburgh's 1980 training camp due to contract dispute. ... Missed most of 1980-81 season with compound fracture of the ring finger in his right hand, an injury first suffered in November 1980. He broke the finger two more times before the end of that season, costing him a total of 46 games. The injury required postseason surgery. ... Missed end of 1981-82 season with separated shoulder, an injury suffered in Hartford's Feb. 27, 1982, game at Washington. ... Was first U.S.-born captain in Hartford/Carolina franchise history.
The Edmonton Brawl: Anderson earned his place in Pittsburgh history when he received nine penalties for 51 minutes in the Penguins' January 19, 1980, game vs. Edmonton. He fought Mark Messier in the first period and Dave Lumley early in the second period. With two majors and a double-minor already to his credit, Anderson became involved in a bench-clearing brawl at 13:34 of the second period. He received a major and double game misconduct for his role in the fight.
