Miscellaneous: His first NHL game was also first game in history of Quebec/Colorado franchise. ... Traded by Quebec to Vancouver for Mario Marois on March 10, 1981. The deal was part of a three-way trade in which Vancouver immediately sent Lariviere and Ken Berry to Edmonton for Blair MacDonald and the rights to Lars-Gunnar Pettersson at the NHL trading deadline on March 10, 1981. ... Missed part of 1981-82 season with knee injury suffered in December 1981. ... Missed parts of 1981-82 season with knee injury and back spasms.

HOW HE GOT AWAY
WHA/TRADE: Lariviere did not sign with Buffalo after the draft, instead jumping to the WHA. While he was in the WHA, his NHL rights were traded by Buffalo to N.Y. Islanders for the rights to Gerry Desjardins on Feb. 19, 1975. He did not enter the NHL until the 1979 NHL-WHA merger. N.Y. Islanders egained his rights in the NHL Reclaim Draft on June 9, 1979, but Quebec immediately took him back as part of its privilege to protect three players from its WHA franchise.
