HOW HE GOT AWAY
WHA/EXPANSION: Rogers did not sign with Vancouver after the draft, instead jumping to the WHA. He finally entered the NHL when it merged with the WHA in 1979. Hartford, his last WHA team, retained his NHL rights after Vancouver chose not to take him back in the NHL Reclaim Draft. Hartford was able claim him outright on June 22, 1979
